Virtual Refrigerator: Scratch Art

Welcome to another edition of the Virtual Refrigerator! This weekly blog hop was started by Jennifer at A Glimpse of Our Life, and is now also co-hosted by Angels of HeartHomeschool Coffee Break, and Every Bed of Roses. We all cordially invite you to add your link sharing the art that's on your Virtual Refrigerator and then hop over to the other blogs and admire what's on their Fridges!

Several of the current lessons in Kennady's art instruction book from ARTistic Pursuits are projects to be completed on scratch paper. Not scratch paper that's for scribbling math problems or doodling, but the kind of scratch paper that has colored or foil background covered with a black surface that can be scratched off to reveal the colors underneath. I complained last week that it seemed we could only find scratch art project kits, which had a design already marked on the black surface, and I was having a time of it finding blank scratch paper. Well, finally I found some this week!

But before I did, Kennady had completed the first assignment using pencil and sketch paper instead. I've asked her to copy this picture onto the scratch paper sometime soon. The assignment was to sit outside or at an open window for a few minutes with eyes closed, then draw/scratch a picture representing the sounds heard. Kennady heard birds singing and leaves, trees, and grass rustling in the autumn wind.

She drew this llama for Social Studies, but I include it here because it's a similar style, and it provided a starting point for the next scratch art assignment.

And here's the next assignment, a sketch on scratch paper of an animal that has lots of texture. She chose the alpacas she got to feed a couple weeks ago.

Here's a second picture of an alpaca she did. This one is so cute, it has a bit of cartoon quality to its face, but it's a pretty faithful copy of the photo.

The assignment she did just this morning was an eagle.

Of course she had to do some doodling and fun stuff on her scratch paper too!

Another assignment this week was to explore negative space using leaf rubbings.

Add a link to share your child's art or your arts and crafts how-to posts, and visit the other blogs and admire what's on their Virtual Refrigerators!

Thanks to Heather at Only Passionate Curiosity, you can grab the image below and help us share about the linky.
